Roberto Villasenor is among the nearly 10,000 employees who opened Wynn Las Vegas April 28, 2005. At that time, he worked in the Public Area Department. Roberto and his team members were responsible for keeping Wynn one of the most beautiful places in the world. He always smiled, and he always gave 110%.
On Februay 8, 2006 Roberto was working on a shampoo machine and fell backwards onto another machine. At the time, he thought he was going to be fine. He did not report the injury right away, a mistake he will tell anyone never to make. It kept him from recieving Workman's Compensation.
About a week later, he woke up feeling extreme tightness around his chest. Four or five days later the same tightness had moved to his stomach area. It felt like a tightening belt. Two or three days after that the tightness had extended down both legs and a few days later the sensation had gone all the way down to his feet. His left leg began to feel numb.
Roberto’s clinic took X rays, but sent him away with a prescription for acid reflux. Of course, Roberto went to another doctor. That doctor sent Roberto to a neurologist, who said he could do nothing. He told Roberto that his injuries were similar to Christopher Reeve’s plight, and that he would never walk again. Roberto was not willing to believe that, based on the way the injury occurred. That neurologist referred Roberto to a neurologic surgeon. This doctor treated him with a series of five shots, each one costing $1,500 each. Roberto was still paralyzed
Finally, Roberto found Dr, Samuel Weiss. He took a full two hours to talk to Roberto and determined that the previous diagnoses were very wrong. Dr. Weiss then asked for all MRI's and realized that the problem was a spinal cord injury at Roberto’s neck.
If the first neurologist had seen that, Roberto would be walking today.
A date for the surgery was set, but had to be postponed because Roberto’s blood sugar was too high. Finally on January 29, 2008, \Roberto had the surgery. As of May 15, Roberto is still in the hospital. He has an infection in his blood and his wounds still have not healed. The physical therapy he has received do not go beyond teaching him to get in and out of bed, and to take care of his personal hygiene needs. Roberto is sure he would be able to do more if only he could receive additional physical therapy.
Roberto has not worked for more than two years. His wife, Judy, can’t work because she has to care for Roberto and their children. The family is in great need. Please give what you can. Click the HELP NOW button and make a credit card donation that will go directly to Roberto's family.
